My partners little brothers turned 7 in March and have NO interest whatsoever in learning how to tie their shoes and button their pants. With velcro and snap closures these days, it is easy to get away with. One has tried a few times to learn, but gets frusturated and quits.
Their mother baby’s them and does everything for them, so they dont really need to put out much effort. She says they are too young to be able to do it. I think thats crap.
At age 7, on target developmentally, should they be able to tie their shoes and button their jeans by themselves?

It is frusturating because they are getting older and their mother doesnt like us to buy clothes for them that have buttons, because they cannot wear them to school since they cannot button their own jeans. We are having a harder time finding clothes that have no buttons on them.

They were potty trained at 3 (average for boys). MInd you their older siblings are 26 and 20. The boys were not planned and so they do get babied a lot.
